Come Closer
Hello beloved readers,
A poem about the sacred ways in which difficult moments can become doorways to deeper connection with the people we love, when we have the courage and openness to let them.
It’s always painful to move through hard times. But beautiful things really can emerge from life’s most challenging seasons.
Come Closer
I don’t know why we fall apart sometimes,
It would be easier if we didn’t,
Would it not?
But I have learned to realize,
That when we strip away our shame,
Those moments of collapse,
When the pain is almost unbearable,
Can become our most precious invitations
To turn to those we hold dearest,
And say “I need you”,
Which is really just another way of saying “Come closer”
Which we so often forget to ask of each other
In our all-too-busy lives.
I don’t know why we fall apart sometimes,
But I have seen vulnerability become a magnet
That pulls the mightiest love towards it;
I have seen wounded spirits
Brave enough to call for help
Turn friends into superheroes of kindness,
Whose capes would have stayed in the closet forever
Had they never been blessed to hear that precious call.
Wishing you wonderful weekends,
Ari
